Fan Letters

[Back to About Bob]

Here are some of the letters of support we have received from Bob's fans.

Dear Scotty;

I hope that this short email finds you well. My name is Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. My father was the late Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis. I saw you in an interview tonight while sitting in my hotel room. I wanted to take a minute to write and offer you my support and understanding. Much has been written about my father, his career, and his love life. Some of the stories that have been written have carried some truth but much of the information has been inaccurate or flat out lies. It has not been easy, but I have learned over the years to pay little attention to the people that initiate the stories... almost always, I might add, for financial gain. There is not much that I can say about these people other than I feel sorry for them. Lastly, I think that it is important to remember that these are people, for the most part, that will never have anything written about them, their careers or the contributions that they leave behind. I am sure that it is much easier for them to write about our father's than it is for them to focus on their own lives or lack thereof. On an even more personal note; when my father was sick I would sit in his room everyday after school and watch T.V. with him before being whisked away by our housekeeper to do my homework. One of the shows that we watched and gave him much pleasure was Hogan's Heroes. That is what our father's did... They made peoples lives better through their work. People will never be able to take a way from that.

All the best,

Joe Louis Barrow, Jr.

P.S. Steve McQueen once said he would have made more money if he had done Hogan's Heroes instead of The Great Escape which Hogan's lampooned.

Dear Scotty,

I just saw a special on Bob Crane, so thought I would check out this web site. Very insightful - to one of my big heroes from childhood. I loved Hogan's Heroes, and found Bob to be a very intriguing man. Good job on the site. Thanks for sharing your memories of your dad with us fans.

Dear Mr. Crane,

Salon.com is set to appear whenever I open my browser- so tonight I happened to see the article about your late father and your web site. As a 42-year-old who grew up with Hogan's Heroes I was immediately interested- and as a fellow human being, and one who does not always conform to the "norm", I was easily compelled to visit your site. I went first to your site and, thus, did not finish the article. I may never finish it...

I want to thank you for reminding us that your father was a human being. The media, and we individuals, too often get caught up in the sensationalism of various things and forget this very common fact: We are all humans, we're just doing the best we know how...

Peace to you and yours,

Sincerely,

Michelle R.

Aloha, Crane family,

When Bob first came to Los Angeles I walked over from KPOL AM/FM where I was a staff announcer. I welcomed Bob to KNX (where a lot of my friends worked) and spent a few minutes wishing him well. And he did very well! KPOL played wall to wall music from films, Broadway, etc. I enjoyed Bob driving to and from KPOL. And I know Bob tuned into KPOL for a change of pace from KNX.

When I chatted with Bob I came away with the feeling that he was truly a family man, who loved his wife and kids. I left KPOL in 1963 to found KTHO AM/FM, South Lake Tahoe in March of 1963. During that summer I was chatting with Nipsy Russell in the large shopping center just down the street from state line and Harrah's where Nipsy was appearing.

Suddenly, I heard this familiar voice, "Hey, Cosie, what are you doing up here?"

I look away and there approaching was Bob. Bob said he was listening to the station while at the lake. As we talked, he kept saying, "Hey, Cosie you are so talented you belong in Hollywood." I was flattered but explained this was a dream for me.

Managing and programming a radio station the way I wanted to and living in the High Country of California. Bob said he always remembered my visit to welcome him to Southern California.

Bob was such an engaging and lively person.

I heard about this web site on the news, and thought I’d share my few times with a great guy. Thanks for the memories, Bob. You were one of a kind.

Good success to Bob's wife and children.

Cordially,

Joe C.

Hi Scotty,

This web site is excellent! Graphically it is beautiful and the color schemes are perfect. There is good info and nice celebrity shots. I liked Bob Crane as a kid.

Good luck with it,

Scotty,

Interesting web site. I am a Hogan's Heroes fan because of Robert Crane.

His spirit is rather inspiring.

The pictures on the web site seem to capture the buoyant personality he portrayed on Hogan's Heroes and certainly validate at least part of the reason for his success.

Robert Crane's life seems to be a story with all the right 'ingredients.' I don't understand why, if it is going to be done, it cannot be done right.

Good Luck,

Clark
