Jackie Carr's - Bob Crane Spoken Word:
Jackie Carr wrote a sort of "coming of age"
spoken word piece inspired by Bob Crane. She
performed the piece at the Alaskan Grand
Slam Poetry Contest held on May 18th of
2002 Click here to hear it. (Real Player Required)
The lowest score she received was
a 9.0 (out of 10).
Jackie was selected along with three
other performers / finalists for 2002's
"Team Alaska." Which means she will
travel to Minneapolis with the Team -
this summer to compete in the National
Poetry Slam (and perform her "Bob Crane"
spoken word piece).
Here is what Jackie had to say about it:
"After sending away for the Bob Crane CD
and looking at bob crane dot com,
I started thinking about him a lot, remembering
back to when I was 8 or 9 and watched Hogan's
Heroes every day. I was remembering things I
hadn't thought of in years. I was surprised to realize
how much he had affected my life even all these
years later.
"So all these old memories started to
flood my mind and before I knew it, I
was writing a poem about Bob Crane.
"(After performing the Bob Crane poem at the
Grand Slam) so many people came up to me
and started gushing about how crazy they'd
been about Bob or what big fans they'd been
of Hogan's Heroes.
"... without bob crane . com I probably would've
ended up reading all the same pieces I'd read
before (two of the other pieces I read that
night were old poems) and might not have
made the team."
